Ooh, I went to the most “Santa Cruz” restaurant yesterday: Cafe Gratitude. It’s vegan. They sell ikea mirrors painted over with affirmations, for $25. Yeah, there is one near me in Berkeley too. God only knows why my good friend Morgan and I decided to go there over any other place, but it just felt right. We were also probably excited about ripping it to shreds while simultaneously stuffing our faces with delicious vegan cheese sauces. I don’t know how to describe Café Gratitude in a concise way, except for telling you that each one of the menu items is titled: “I am ____” and insert your favorite affirmative phrase in the blank. I Am Elated. I am Euphoric. I am Going to Have a Bad Case of Raw Kale Gas. Etc. Here’s a shot of the “I Am Pretending I Am Health Food,” or the delicious oven roasted potatoes with nacho cashew “cheese” sauce. We kept mopping up the sauce with the potatoes. I split the last potato with her but I almost took it for myself. I am a Saint.
